Has anyone gone from a rear bumper to the back of the stock cage to tie together to help it from wadding up? And possibly from front bumper to dash bar? Do you think it would help? Or possibly weaken the already thin tubing used from welding on it and heating it up?

@MIKE_D did something similar to what your describing for the front, and I know I've seen custom jobs that tied the cage and rear bumper together.

I built a rear bumper for my old blue T4. Fairly simple to build. It just bolted on and went up to the bottom bolts on the X bar in the back.
