In 2014, Kawasaki decided to reroute the intake to the CVT. It is unclear why they did this, but many people agree that the intake from the 2012 - 2013 Teryx4 is the preferred design. This modification will work on the Teryx and Teryx4.

There are two major flaws with the 2014 + CVT intake:
  1. It breathes air from a lower point than the 2012 - 2013 intake, which also means it will inhale water from a lower point
  2. It sucks hot air off the engine, which has proven to increase CVT temperatures
Higher intake temperatures along with the risk of water and mud ingestion...
I went nearly 1,500 miles in my Teryx4 without any floor damage, but based on how easily it broke, it could have happened at any time. The incident that caused a watermelon size hole to form in my floor (and firewall) happened at a leisurely pace while traversing modest terrain. The right front tire somehow grabbed a rock and wedged it between itself and the floorboard. There was no warning and no way to avoid the destruction that ensued. If you spend enough time around mud, you're bound to get stuck. If you spend enough time stuck, you'll find yourself replacing parts. Once on the Outlaw trails, I spent 10 minutes stuck and spinning in a watery mud hole. Some time later, my throttle cable developed a catch. Water and mud must have entered the cable sleeve. When temperatures fell below freezing, the cable started to stick. I had to apply heat to the throttle cable sleeve in order to free the cable.
